Boswellia Serrata

For centuries, boswellia serrata and its incense have been used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat chronic inflammatory diseases.

A series of active ingredients can be extracted from the plant's resin: the most studied is acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid (AKBA), also known as boswellic acids, which have powerful anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, analgesic, and sedative properties.

The main pathologies that benefit from treatment with this plant are: arthritis and arthrosis, in particular rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, back pain and lumbago.

Boswellia's enviable advantage, however, concerns its side effects. Although its therapeutic effects are comparable to those of NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), it does not cause the same side effects, such as stomach irritation, as demonstrated by a study (Boswellia serrata: An Overall Assessment of In Vitro, Preclinical, Pharmacokinetic, and Clinical Data).
